After nearly two decades away from the fashion industry and three decades since appearing on the cover of Vogue, the living valkyrie herself Karen Mulder sets foot upon the mortal realm once again for a comeback for the ages! In epic fashion, Karen graces the cover Vogue Germany’s September issue and talks with writer Silke Wichert discussing the Super’s beginnings in fashion, model stardom, life away from the spotlight, and returning to a changed industry. In planning for her comeback to the runways this September, Karen Mulder was asked if she could still do her legendary walk:
“The other day, I walked back and forth on my tiptoes a bit to try it out,” says Mulder, smiling with relief. “I’m sure I can still do it.”
I still can’t believe it and I still think I’m dreaming, but Karen Mulder really is back! She’s always been an extraordinary and supernatural beauty. She’s been my biggest model influence and I can still remember seeing pictures of her for the first when I was looking up supermodels from the 90s. I thought she was the most beautiful person I ever saw, and she made being blond something that was high fashion, cool, and it was like wielding a superpower. In the pages of fashion magazines and on the runway, Karen was like to fashion what Mike Tyson was to boxing, a guaranteed knockout, box office, leaving crowds stunned in seeing a mortal being supernatural. She is such a rockstar. I’m so happy that this happened. She’s a true champion through and through. Return of the Mulder, scorching like a Ferrari!
