It’s hard to put into words or songs how much of an impact Linda Evangelista has had on so many people over the years. She’s a remarkable person who touches people with her modeling in the same way that Audrey Hepburn would touch people with her acting – like a conduit of joy and inspiration. It seems like every time you look up, Linda is doing an interview or speaking somewhere. I’m thrilled that more people are recognizing Linda for the person she is, her stellar career, and the work she continues to do.
It’s something to admire a master at their craft like a brilliant painter, cellist, or writer. It’s another thing entirely to admire someone like Evangelista, who continues to paint on our at times glum and monotonous canvas of reality with some love and joy when she can. Linda Evangelista made her return to Met Gala for the first time since 2015’s China Through the Looking Glass Theme party. Evangelista for the grand fashion event chose to don one of her favorite labels and tapped Khaite designer Catherine Holstein to do the honors putting together an ensemble for outing for the night. The Super only request was no black for the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” theme.
“The one thing I really wanted to do was push myself out of black, and that’s what we’ve done.”
Catherine and Evangelista crafted an ethereal and elegant piece befitting the Gala’s theme with an organic silk gazer draped over Evangelista’s silhouette: “It’s so dreamy and light–it’s light like a cloud,” Evangelista says. I feel so comfortable in it, and I’m really, really, really happy.”
Holstein and Evangelista capped off the look with green tourmaline earrings specially crafted for the event containing 91 carats of tourmaline and diamonds, fashioned in 18 karat fair-mined gold. Yet the jeweler’s main inspiration came from the eyes Evangelista herself:
“Linda’s eyes are so special–their beauty is really unmatched, she says. I looked to take a cue from her eye color and crate an ‘unmatched’ pair of earrings: one set of impossibly blue stones like her eyes and one set of radiant green stones that link back to nature.”
Karmen Pedaru is a huge influence and she’s the first top model that I came across years ago that helped me appreciate and understand just how amazing top fashion models are. Her modeling was like hearing Nirvana for the first time as a teenager forever transformed music for me. She’s an incredible person and a genuine soul through and through. And I couldn’t be happier with all the success with her pyjama brand. She’s more of star and stellar human being than she’ll ever know.
