Rest in Peace Patrick Demarchelier

“I like to photograph the positive way of life,” Mr. Demarchelier told The Times in 2016. “I like the beauty, the beauty inside.”

Highly celebrated, revered, and praised with a host of achievements like being named Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Ministry of Culture, awarded the Founder’s Award by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and a Lifetime Achievement Award by CLIO, the late Demarchelier even served as personal portraitist of Princess Diana, where he became the first non-Briton official royal photographer!

As influential and sought after as Patrick Demarchelier was throughout his career, he was never formally trained as a photographer, yet with his simple and elegant portrait style of taking pictures he refined in his youth and a philosophy of spontaneity when capturing subjects, Demarchelier catapulted himself through his tenure at Vogue starting in the mid 1970s and beyond. Yet Demarchelier’s name would be forever cemented with his cover shot of Linda Evangelista for Harper’s Bazaar September 1992 issue with the tag “Enter the Era of Elegance.”

There was even an all out bidding war between Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar for the famed photographers snaps. With Demarcherlier’s rise, we too saw the rise of more supermodel and celebrity covers. As integral as Demarchelier was to fashion and pop culture, many remember him for his charm, his care and relationship with his subjects, and dedication.

You can read more about Patrick Demarchelier’s incredible life and career at The Guardian and The New York Times.

Giedre Dukauskaite Models Zimmermann’s Spring 2022 Ready-To-Wear Collection

Accounting for the current social climate and feeling shoppers were less inclined to embrace anything delicate and dainty, Zimmermann, nonetheless not wanting to scrap their aesthetics of floral designs and puff sleeves, decided to channel their designs based on the athletic power and grace of a ballerina. And Zimmermann’s Spring 2022 Ready-To-Wear (The Dancer) Collection embodies those dynamics of elegance and strength with designs and shapes so impressive that the dresses themselves are almost their own performative act.
