Hana Jirickova for Harper’s Bazaar España July 2023 by Xavi Gordo

For the July issue, Harper’s Bazaar España expounds on the joys and experiences of travel. In the travel issue repeating the phrase by Diana Vreeland, “The eye has to travel,” each page takes the reader through fashion culture, and art with a thousand and one unique stories, touring cities with incredible summer looks like Copacabana, Rome, and Madrid. Top model and protagonist of the cover story Hana Jirickova is seen fantastic locations like Paris, Egypt, and Madrid.

“Traveling is the closest thing to dreaming with your eyes open: it is contemplating life through Cleopatra’s gaze, walking around as Fellini’s muse and drinking in Hemingway’s bars. It is wanting everything at the same time and burning among customs like fabulous stars. It is the way of beating those who are not satisfied with a mundane reality, and ask for that extra piece of luggage, crazy to save themselves from a yawn. It is being a suitcase turned into a sponge, a lifeline that annihilates distances”. With these words, the director of Harper’s Bazaar, Inmaculada Jiménez, welcomes us to an issue dedicated to one of life’s greatest pleasures: travel.”

Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell & Cindy Crawford Star in Apple TV+’s The Super Models

Announced October 6 of 2020, the much-anticipated documentary directed by two-time Academy Award Winner Barbara Kopple, set to premier this September 20, will focus on Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, and Cindy Crawford ascent into Supermodels and the Fours impact on the fashion industry. The Supermodels also cover the friendships of the Supers as well as their individual careers, activism, philanthropy, and business ventures.

Fashion industry icons like Peter Lindbergh and Gianni Versace were so instrumental in the formation of the modern Supermodel, which was inaugurated in the October 1988 issue of British Vogue titled World Class of 88. These complicated, multihyphenate, dauntless women became not only the heroines of fashion but heralds of an unforgettable time in culture and art still beloved to this day:

“I was rather uninspired with the way women were photographed in the ’80s. I was trying to photograph them in a different way, but nobody seemed to care back then… I wanted to move away from the rather formal, quite perfectly styled woman who was very artificial. I was more concerned about a more outspoken, adventurous woman in control of her life and not too concerned about her social status or emancipated by masculine protection. My ideal was always the young women I met in art school, very independent and who could speak for themselves. The supermodels represented this change. It explains why they dominated the visual world for many years.”

“Not attracted by the opulent aesthetics of the 1980s, Lindbergh transformed “his” women into heroines of our times: models who became performers, personalities who became supermodels to later be known only by their first names.”

And maybe we’re just kids who’ve grown
And maybe not
And maybe when we’re on our own
We don’t have much

But oh, we are young and not tired of it
Oh, we are young and easily lead
Oh, with all the kids getting out of their heads

Oh, Class A, Class B
Is that the only chemistry?
Oh, Class A, Class B
Is that the only chemistry

Laetitia Casta Stars in Dior’s The Lady 95.22 Campaign by Brigitte Lacombe

Under the auspices of Dior’s Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri, the famed Lady Dior handbag created in 1995 and named after Princess Diana, is experiencing a cultural resurgence. Chiuri wanting a kind of evolution of The Lady Bag instead of a reinvention, designed a handbag not only honoring the original but also incorporating modernized elements. Laetitia Casta is seen with her large black leather version of Chiuri’s reimagining of the Lady Dior which is now softened and rounded, compared to the rigorous architecture of the former, mixing Maxi and Macrocannage motifs in its sleek signature letter charms. The two handles of the Lady Dior two handles are delicately refined with leather, metal punctuated with the Dior charms made famous by Monsieur Dior. The Lady comes in three sizes with different textures and shades of ruthenium.

“Nothing can be invented, but everything can be revisited with fresh eyes.”

–Marie Grazia Chiuri

Along with its reimagining, The New Lady Dior Campaign spotlights 16 incredible women including Laetitia who have distinguished themselves in art, film, sports, literature, fashion, and music.

“I don’t feel like I have one style and I love to change my personality. I like new things. I like to never be the same person. Dior is really all about femineity, elegance, precision. But you know when I think of Dior, I always think about also memories of cinema. All these films that represent all the cinematic dreams and the elegance of all the actresses. These are my first memories of Dior.” –Laetitia Casta

Hana Jirickova & Filipee Neves for Vogue Portugal June 2023 by Branislav Simoncik

Happy Belated Birthday Hana Jirickova

Eudaimonia: For June 2023, Vogue Portugal wanted to dedicate an entire issue to the art of travelling in “its most varied forms and dimensions,” asking themselves about their dream trips yet to be realized. Vogue Portugal also opines on the very meaning of travel, not only physical destinations, but philosophical, cultural, and pleasures of travel. Models Hana Jirickova and Filipee Neves stop by in the issue for an ode to Midsummer vacation, romanticizing calls of the beach, ice cream at dusk, life in flip-flops and cliches of memories of a summer filled childhood. Hana can be seen wearing Roberto Cavalli, Isabel Marant, Alberta Ferreti, and Louis Vuitton.

“The true voyage of discovery does not consist in looking for a new landscape, but in having a new look. We travel to be able to return. To see where we came from with new eyes and new colors. Because coming home is not the same as never leaving. Before leaving for distant hemispheres, try to realize what you have actually seen. Sometimes we are sitting on top of the treasure without knowing it. Put down the “maps” and get lost: discover new places, in your street, in your city, in your country… in a book, or in a magazine. Just let go.”

-And, no time, no distance, I wish you happy travels.
