The Smashing Pumpkins’ Gish Turns 30 Today!

I’m such a big Smashing Pumpkins fan! I really got into their music in high school starting with their Siamese Dream album. I was so hooked on the band after that album that I had to listen to the rest of their discography! It always seemed Gish was underappreciated and overlooked because of Grunge and The Smashing Pumpkins being an indie band at that point in their careers. But Gish is a very special album with a special sound. Even critics and fans didn’t know what to think or what to do with the album in the early 90s.

Billy Corgan was experimenting with LSD and really into psychedelic rock as well when recording the album, so it’s no wonder the sound was so trippy and distinct. Gish to me, has always been more of a shoegaze album than grunge. I was reading a recent Rolling Stone article with Corgan talking about Gish, and it’s really cool to read the people the album influenced like Eddie Vedder, Kurt Cobain, and Queen of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme! Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine even took a liken to the album because of the song Daydream, a song The Smashing Pumpkins made because they were inspired by My Bloody Valentine so much. The article also talks in depth about legendary producer Butch Vig and the record industry’s attitude toward the band and alternative rock at the time.

Tristessa is probably my favorite song off the album. The riff is so fun and bubbly, and the breakdown is one of my favorites. I also liked the slower songs like Crush, Snail, and especially My Daydream. The Smashing Pumpkins were masters at crafting slow melodic and heavy distortion driven songs. I just think they’re easily one of the top 3 to 5 bands of the 90s with Soundgarden and Radiohead. Gish is so special because it laid the framework for The Smashing Pumpkins’ unique incredible sound and I seriously doubt a great album like Siamese Dream would have ever been possible without it.

Song of the Day: Step into You

I can hardly believe Hum finally released a new album since their last LP over 22 years ago! This was completely out of the blue for me and I didn’t find out until over a week ago. But I’ve been listening to Inlet nonstop and Hum hasn’t lost it at all even after all these years. This band just means so much to me. They were one of my favorite bands in high school along with Black Sabbath and Soundgarden. Me and my best friend were so obsessed their space rock sound and the unbelievable melodic distortion that from the guitars of Matt Talbott and Tim Lash. I’ve listened to quite a bit of doom and alternative metal bands and no one even comes close to Hum’s sound.

The reviews for Inlet have been overwhelmingly positive and I absolutely love the new record. They have four songs on the record that are actually over 8 minutes, but the music is so seamless that the length of the songs feel way shorter than what they are. Step into You is one of my favorite songs off the record. It has that heavy melodic distortion that I love so much with all the sweet melancholy overdrive one could ask for! Hum are really back and the amazing indie rock scene that is just brimming with so much talent is going to be all the better for it!

Happy Birthday Laetitia Casta!

I don’t think words can ever adequately convey how much of a tremendous influence Laetitia Casta has had on my life. I just adore her so much. From the very first moment she became a model, she’s always done things her way. She’s never fit into anyone’s mold. It didn’t matter that she was too short, too shapely and her teeth were crooked. She refused to change or conform to anyone’s standard.

As the Marianne of France, Laetitia is the very definition of the 21st century woman. She’s smart, caring, ambitious, strong-willed, her femininity isn’t a weakness and she’s not ashamed of her beauty. I think Laetitia has a lot in common with Shirley Mason, the lead singer of Garbage. They both have larger than life personalities and completely revolutionized how women were viewed in their fields.

And what’s even cooler is Laetitia’s birthday is the same as the international release date for Garbage’s iconic Version 2.0 album. So many of those songs make me think of Laetitia. To the hard rock riffs, trip-hop, electronic sounds, to Shirley’s aggressive and melodic vocal deliveries, it embodies all facets of Laetitia Casta’s unique versatility.

Laetitia is probably the coolest Taurus around and she’s my favorite model. Happy Birthday Laetitia, words and images hardly do justice to show how amazing of a person you truly are. She’s one of a kind and truly special ♡

Happy Birthday Karmen Pedaru!

Happy birthday to a very special model and person. Karmen Pedaru and Laetitia Casta have had such a big impact on my life. When I first become a fan of Karmen years ago, I thought she had such a cool aura and was just completely different. Karmen has so much passion in her modeling and I think she’s far more expressive in her editorial and runway work than anyone else.

Karmen’s modeling really makes me think of Doosu. The quasi-Sunny Day Real Estate vocals, melancholy induced overdrive, vivid introspective lyrics, and all around kick ass sound are all of the personifications of Karmen’s awesomeness. Fashion models are literally some of the coolest people around and they’re some of my favorite modern artists.

Thanks for inspiring me so much. It’s so cool to share the same zodiac with someone so talented, unique, and beautiful on the inside and out. I hope this birthday is a happy one and you have even grandeur in the years to come. Thanks for being so awesomely stellar, Karmen Pedaru♡

Song of the Day: Then People Forget

Well it’s the end of February, the second month of 2020 and see, the world didn’t end lol. But yeah, this band Paerish is pretty awesome. I’ve been coming across some new music and I would love to talk about it. I sometimes joke about how this blog is really about music and I couldn’t picture talking about my favorite models without it lol. Anyway thanks for sticking around and I’m sure March will be even better. Keep rockin’ ‘n’ rollin’ out there!
