Miuccia Prada for Vogue March 2024 by Stef Mitchell with Gigi Hadid

Deferentially known as Mrs. Prada, Miuccia Prada the highly distinguished storied fashion designer and businesswoman graces the cover of Vogue’s March 2024 issue. Miuccia Prada with Wendell Steavenson, discuss the fashion laureate’s rise to prominence, her fashion philosophy and ethos, The Prada Foundation, and her love of art, culture and friends.

“I personally have many characters in myself,” said Prada, “and I think that many people have different characters in themselves: the feminine part and the masculine part, the gentle and the tough.”

“Fashion is one third of my life,” said Prada, who has created two celebrated fashion labels, Prada and Miu Miu, and, together with her husband, Patrizio Bertelli, helms the Prada Group, a global luxury brand with $4.5 billion in annual revenue (as of 2022) and over 13,000 employees. (Prada Group also has a stake in Church’s shoes.) The second third of her life, she says, is “culture and the Fondazione.” Since its creation in 1993, the Prada Foundation has become a leading proponent of contemporary art. “After, there is family and friends, and possibly some pleasures.” She paused to reconsider. “Actually, they all overlap. I try to make my life useful.”

Linda Evangelista for ZEIT Magazine February 2024 by Cass Bird

I never thought I would work again: In the latest issue of ZEIT Magazine, the one and only Linda Evangelista talks to ZEIT’s style directer and writer Claire Beermann about her goings-on since returning to fashion. Analogizing what happened to her as something of a Greek Tragedy, Evangelista and Beerman discuss fashion and society’s ever changing yet paradoxical relationship with beauty:

“It was something of a Greek tragedy: a beautiful person is punished for wanting to be beautiful forever. Yet beautiful looks have always been the standard for a model.”

“I love my industry because it doesn’t hold the mistake I made against me. It embraces me.” The fashion world also loves an entertaining tragedy – as long as you don’t see too much of it.”

Liner Notes: I really don’t comment on hair or makeup much, but Bob Recine and Romy Soleimani did such as wonderful job. It’s bad ass but really elegant and it can’t help but think of Patti Smith and The Velvet Underground. Cass Bird’s photography is of course flawless. Cass and Linda is just magic.
